“Shrek” Wins Box Office, Tops “Get Him to the Greek,” “Splice,” “Killers”

Even as an underwhelming performer by franchise standards, “Shrek: The Final Chapter” can still claim that it won three consecutive weekend box office crowns.

The latest sequel pulled an additional $25.3 million for first place this weekend, topping a number of new releases en route to a domestic total of $183.0 million.

Leading the new releases was well-reviewed “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” spin-off “Get Him to the Greek,” which pulled a respectable $17.4 million this weekend. Assuming estimates hold up, it will have narrowly topped “The Killers” ($16.1 million) for second place.

Behind “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” ($13.9 million) and “Sex and the City 2” ($12.7 million) was sixth-place finisher “Marmaduke.” The family film debuted with a mere $11.3 million on 3213 screens.

Also new: “Splice” ($7.5 million for eighth place) and “Raajneeti” ($0.9 million for eleventh place on 124 screens).
