THRFeed’s analysis of pilot season buzz confirms that CBS’ hottest prospects include “Hawaii Five-O” and “Bleep My Dad Says.”
The “Hawaii” remake reportedly tops CBS’ list of prospects on the drama side, with CIA drama “Chaos” and legal series “Defenders” also making waves. CBS insiders have not been excited by the “Criminal Minds” spin-off, but the presumed bankability of the franchise will likely result in a series order anyway.
On the comedy side, William Shatner vehicle “Bleep My Dad Says” (based on the “Shit My Dad Says” Twitter) is the strongest candidate for a spot on the schedule. Executives at The Eye are reportedly more into the Carter Bays and Craig Thomas (creators of “How I Met Your Mother”) pilot “Livin’ on a Prayer” than Chuck Lorre’s “Mike and Molly,” but with Lorre’s “Two and a Half Men” and “The Big Bang Theory” continuing to dominate for the network, one might still have to favor the latter in making bets about next year’s schedule.
Buzz for comedy “True Love” has been lukewarm, but it still might have a shot. A Variety article on CBS’ pilots interestingly pointed to “True Love,” not “Prayer,” as an ideal companion piece for “How I Met Your Mother.
