“24” Producer: Jack Bauer Going to “Place He’s Never Been” in Finale

The upcoming final moments of FOX’s “24” might not be as eagerly anticipated as those of ABC’s “Lost,” but for a show known for its shocking cliffhangers, game-changing twists and tragic endings, there will still be a lot about which to get excited.

According to “24” executive producer Howard Gordon, one should absolutely not expect an insincere, unauthentic ending for Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer.

“[The ending] leaves him in a compromised place morally, ethically and emotionally,” said Gordon, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “This show is a tragedy and to give Jack a happy ending didn’t feel authentic.”

Gordon did not go into specifics, only explaining that the remaining episodes will be “taking him to a place he’s never been before.” The Bauer character has already murdered countless enemies with both good and bad intentions, been forced to kill or allow for the death of colleagues and experienced the death of loved ones, so Gordon’s ambiguous statement nonetheless raises expectations to an enormous level.

“24” wraps up its eighth and final season this month. A feature film version is in the works, with writers currently preparing a second script.
