Report: “American Pie 4” Confirmed, “Harold & Kumar” Team Directing

THR’s Risky Business blog reports that long-rumored sequel “American Pie 4” is finally looking like a go.

“Harold & Kumar” creators Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg are reportedly in talks to write and direct the “Pie” sequel, which seeks to reunite the cast of the original three films (“American Pie,” “American Pie 2” and “American Wedding”). The report interestingly describes the sequel as a “reboot,” so it is possible that the original characters will serve as supporting cast to a new crop of sexually-charged teenagers.

The “Harold & Kumar” duo has already begun writing the script, for which storyline details are being kept under wraps. As a key motivation in the film’s planned production was interest from the original films’ actors, it definitely appears that this will be more directly consistent with the “American Pie” lineage than the four spin-off films.

Those films, all of which went straight to DVD, are dialed into the “Pie” universe but focus on entirely different characters (often involving ‘relatives’ of Seann William Scott’s Steve Stifler). Save for the occasional cameo (such as Chris Owen reprising Sherman) Eugene Levy (Jim’s Dad, aka Noah Levenstein) is the only original actor who has appeared in them.
