While “Brooklyn’s Finest” performed passably in its box office debut Friday, it was the heavily-hyped “Alice in Wonderland” that stole the show.
Reports indicate that the film grossed $41 million Friday, enough to positively rule the box office. Even if the film failed to gross a single dime on Saturday and Sunday–and that obviously is not happening, as projections show the film could generate $110 million through Sunday–its total will almost triple what any competitor will make across the entire weekend.
In second place was “Finest” with $4.8 million, topping last week’s winner “Shutter Island” ($4 million).
“Cop Out” and “The Crazies” followed, and neither showed any holdover strength, with the films dropping to $2.9 million and $2.3 million, respectively.
“Avatar” was sixth with $2 million.
