“American Idol” Eliminates First Male Semifinalist, Brings Total to 11

The hourlong “American Idol” results show is 75% complete–three of the night’s four eliminations have been revealed.

The first two cuts brought the female semifinalist roster from twelve to ten. Now, as “Idol” approaches its final televised moments of the week, it moved into the male half of the Top 24 to deliver some bad news.

After sending the likable trio of Michael Lynche, John Park and Aaron Kelly to safety, host Ryan Seacrest also delivered good news to the polished Todrick Hall. The first cut would thus be between Joe Munoz and Tim Urban.

Tim Urban, a late replacement for the semifinals, struggled with “Apologize” Wednesday and clearly assumed he would be the one leaving. He was not.

Instead, “Idol” sent Joe Munoz home. While Munoz’s “You and I Both” was not well-liked by many critics, the judges were fairly warm to the performance, so the elimination was a bit of a surprise.

Urban, who was not identified as one of the lower vote getters, displayed a look of utter shock as he was informed of his safety.

One of the remaining six males will learn his journey is over within the next fifteen minutes.
