Breaking: The CW Wants More “90210,” “Gossip Girl”

The CW issued early renewal orders for a number of its series Tuesday, proving that declining ratings and buzz were not enough to keep some of the network’s best known shows off next season’s schedule.

Confirmed for next season are “Gossip Girl,” “90210,” “Supernatural,” “The Vampire Diaries” and “America’s Next Top Model.”

Despite serving as the network’s most-talked-about shows, “Gossip Girl” and “90210” have both seen their audiences decline from last year’s numbers. “90210,” nonetheless, has received high marks from critics for its second season–“Gossip Girl” has not been so acclaimed, although it still represents a solid draw within young female demographics.

The network’s top-rated show, “Vampire Diaries” was an absolute lock for renewal, while veteran “ANTM” continues to be a stable performer for the network.

The CW credited “Supernatural”‘s fanbase–“one of the most loyal audiences of any show on television”–and its “heroic work in a perennially tough time period (Thursdays at 9PM)” for the renewal decision.

Awaiting their fates are “Life UneXpected,” “One Tree Hill,” “Melrose Place” and Smallville.”
