Taylor Swift Tops Beyonce, Lady Gaga For Album of the Year Grammy

Despite winning some early awards in the non-televised portion of 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, when it came time for the broadcast, Taylor Swift went through several key categories without a win.

She managed to claim the Grammy for Best Country album but lost in the races for Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Female Pop Vocal. After all the hype, commercial success and victories at preliminary awards shows, was she going to fail in her quest to win a major Grammy?

She did not. Taylor Swift scored the Album of the Year prize for 2008’s “Fearless,” culminating a fairytale run to the top of the music food chain.

In winning the award–which she technically shares with the production crew and Colbie Caillat, who is featured on “Breathe”–Swift beat out acclaimed, successful cuts from Beyonce (“I Am…Sasha Fierce”), Lady Gaga (“The Fame”), the Dave Matthews Band (“Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King”) and the Black Eyed Peas (“The END”).

Of the big three to watch this year–Swift, Beyonce and Gaga–only Gaga went home empty-handed in the major categories; Beyonce won for Song of the Year (“Single Ladies”) and Female Pop Vocal (“Halo”).
