Beyonce scored another big victory over Taylor Swift at Sunday’s Grammy Awards, taking home the trophy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
This time, it was Beyonce’s “Halo” claiming victory over Swift’s smash “You Belong with Me.”
As vocal ability is not the heart of Swift’s appeal, the competition theoretically should not have been as heated as their battles in some of the other key categories. Nonetheless, Swift has bested more technical singers for vocal awards in the past, so she was not be counted out.
The most high-profile Swift vs. Beyonce battle is still to come, as Swift’s “Fearless” squares off with Beyonce’s “I Am…Sasha Fierce” for album of the year. Also in that race are Lady Gaga’s “The Fame,” the Black Eyed Peas’ “The END” and Dave Matthews Band’s “Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King.”
Other nominees for female pop vocal included Katy Perry (“Hot N Cold”), Adele (“Hometown Glory”) and Pink (“Sober”).
— Jason Mraz won the untelevised male version of the pop vocal award for “Make it Mine.” He topped John Legend (“This Time”), Maxwell (“Love You”), Seal (“If You Don’t Know Me By Now”) and Stevie Wonder (“All About the Love Again”).
