As expected, Monday’s airings of “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” and “Make it or Break It” suffered sizable drops from last week’s mid-season premiere ratings. Nonetheless, ABC Family had no hesitation about granting pickups for next season.
Following the current crop of episodes, “Secret Life” will return for its third season this summer, while “Make It” will debut its sophomore season.
As for Monday’s ratings, the drops were significant, albeit expected. “Secret Life” garnered 3.1 million viewers Monday with a 1.2 in adults 18-49; “Make It” averaged 2.1 million viewers with a .7 18-49 demo rating. Down more than 30% in total viewers, “Secret Life” also lost a whopping 40% in its targeted teen demographic. “Make it Or Break It” fell 22% in total viewers and 29% among teens.
Still, because the shows regularly post strong viewership numbers for a cable network and draw particularly well in key young adult and teen demographics, ABC Family’s renewals were easily justified.
