While the numbers for “Daybreakers,” “Leap Year” and “Youth in Revolt” were not exactly atrocious, none made a huge impact in its debut Friday.
Moreover, none even came within range of holdover smash “Avatar,” which added $13.3 million to its take Friday and is on pace for another weekend box office victory.
“Daybreakers” landed second with $5.8 million Friday. While that certainly made for a decent opening day, as films in the genre tend to be very front-heavy, the film is not pacing for a fantastic overall run at the cinema.
Ahead of “Sherlock Holmes” ($5.1 million) and “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” ($3.5 million), “Daybreakers” also held a comfortable margin over the other newcomers. “Leap Year” started with a mild $3.3 million, topping the disappointing $2.7 million for “Youth in Revolt.” On just under 1900 screens, “Revolt” did, however, top “Leap” on a per-theatre basis.
“It’s Complicated” ranked between “Leap” and “Revolt” with $3.2 million.
