In confirming reports that musician Taylor Swift and actor Taylor Lautner broke up, sources close to the ex-couple claim the relationship was never anything serious.
“It was never a big deal to begin with. The media made way more out of it than it is,” a source close to Swift tells PEOPLE. “They went out on a few dates and realized this was just not going anywhere.”
A source close to the “Twilight” actor corroborated the PEOPLE report on the matter: “They became good friends and then went out a few times, but he lives in L.A. and she lives in Nashville and their busy schedules kept it from becoming more than it was.”
Speculation on a possible relationship between the two emerged almost immediately after the two met on the set of “Valentine’s Day.” Set photos showed the two becoming friendly, and it thus seemed only a matter of time between the multi-platinum singer/songwriter and “New Moon” heartthrob would begin dating.
The two played coy in addressing the existence of a relationship; both jokingly hinted at the relationship in their respected “Saturday Night Live” hosting appearances.
