TV News: “Gossip Girl” Controversy, “30 Rock,” Oscars

— Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin have been tapped as the co-hosts of this year’s Academy Awards telecast. The Oscar broadcast airs on March 7, 2010.

— Speaking of the world of Alec Baldwin, EW.com is reporting that James Franco will appear as himself on an upcoming episode of “30 Rock.” The storyline reportedly involves Franco and Jenna (Jane Krakowski) in an artificial relationship manufactured by their agents.

— Next week’s episode of “Gossip Girl,” which features a much-hyped threesome arc, has come under fire from the PTC.

“Gossip Girl routinely depicts teenage characters engaging in promiscuous and consequence-free sexual behavior, and that’s bad enough. But will you now be complicit in establishing a precedent and expectation that teenagers should engage in behaviors heretofore associated primarily with adult films? Behaviors that not only increase health risks, but which are emotionally and psychologically damaging to participants, as well? I certainly hope not, and I’m sure members of your community and parents of children who watch your network expect more of you,” said the letter the PTC issued to CW affiliates. (Source: EW)
