After appearing to stabilize with a slight uptick last week, ratings for The CW’s “Melrose Place” took an additional tumble Tuesday.
Preliminary data indicates that the remake carved a new ratings bottom with 1.40 million viewers and a mere 0.7 adults 18-49 demographic rating. While the “90210” lead-in was nothing to celebrate (2.4 million viewers, 1.2 rating), the 22% drop for “Melrose” is beyond concerning.
But while the remade primetime soaps offered nothing special Tuesday, the night was not bad across the board. The “Hell’s Kitchen” finale (8 million viewers, 3.8) gave FOX the demographic victory (from a series perspective, it was second only to “NCIS” for the evening), while ABC saw modest increases for “Shark Tank” (5.4 million, 1.6), “Dancing with the Stars” (13.5 million, 2.8) and “The Forgotten” (7.6 million, 2.0).
Though better than ABC from a ratings perspective, NBC’s two programs dropped Tuesday. “The Biggest Loser” dipped to a demo rating of 3.4 with 9 million viewers, while “The Jay Leno Show” had a lower-than-usual Tuesday outing with 5.8 million viewers and a 1.8 rating.
Viewership powerhouse CBS retained its crown–“NCIS” opened things up with 20.4 million and a 4.4 rating, while “NCIS: Los Angeles” effectively halted its demographic decline with a 3.5 rating and 15.3 million viewers. “The Good Wife” closed the night with 12.8 million viewers and a 2.7.
