It is predictably shaping up to be one of the tightest album sales races in recent memory, but after one day of tabulation, Paramore’s “Brand New Eyes” is pacing to top next week’s charts.
According to Hits Daily Double projections, the third studio from the rock group is on pace for 180-190,000 sales in its first week. As of right now, that gives the Paramore album a slight edge over Mariah Carey’s “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel” (160-170,000).
Of course, given the fact that Paramore’s fanbase consists of motivated teen and young adult album buyers, there is a possibility that “Brand New Eyes” benefited from particularly heavy first day purchases and will cool off by week’s end. So no one is yet willing to call the week for the Hayley Williams-fronted band–regardless, however, it will be a great opening frame for Paramore.
Other notable debuts this week: Barbra Streisand’s “Love is the Answer” (projected for 150-160,000), Breaking Benjamin’s “Dear Agony” (140-150,000), Alice in Chains’ “Black Gives Way to Blue” (130-140,000) and Miranda Lambert’s “Revolution” (65-75,000).
Also debuting: AFI’s “Crash Love” (60-70,000), Selena Gomez & The Scene’s “Kiss and Tell” (50-60,000) and Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “God and Guns” (30-40,000).
