Celebs Rip Kanye West as Taylor Swift Responds to VMA Incident

Entertainment news and gossip readers have been unable to escape coverage of the Kanye West-Taylor Swift incident at the MTV Video Music Awards, and the celebrity Twitter/bloging sphere has been a particularly concentrated area of Kanye West discussion.

Katy Perry, who Taylor Swift praised in a Twitter update prior to Sunday’s show, jumped quickly to the country star’s defense, writing “F*ck U Kanye. It’s like u stepped on a kitten” shortly after the incident Sunday. Other celebrities weighing in included Kelly Clarkson (“I’ve seen you do some pretty sh*tty things, but you just keep amazing me with your tactless, asshole ways. It’s absolutely fascinating how much I don’t like you.”), Pink (“Kanye West is the biggest piece of sh*t on earth. Quote me…My heart goes out to taylor swift. She is a sweet and talented girl and deserved her moment. She should know we all love her.”) and Adam Lambert (“Kanye needs to chill. He freaks out every year. It ain’t that deep man.”).

Swift, meanwhile, was less vitriolic in her response. “I was really excited, because I had just won the award. And then I was really excited because Kanye West was onstage,” she said, according to a Rolling Stone story. “And then I wasn’t so excited anymore after that.”

The “You Belong With Me” singer did, however, praise Beyonce as “wonderful and gracious.” West interrupted Swift’s speech to criticize voters for not awarding Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” with the Best Female Video prize, but when it came time for the latter Diva to accept the Best Video prize, she cut off her own speech to give Swift a chance to address the crowd.
