Perry Dominates With “I Can Do Bad All By Myself,” “9,” “Sorority Row,” “Whiteout” Struggle

Tyler Perry continues his streak of bringing bankable films to the marketplace, as “Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself” opened with a commanding lead Friday.

After pulling in $8.6 million in day one, the film appears nearly locked to reach $20 million for the weekend–in doing so, it could be the weekend’s only film to hit eight figures.

The only film with a realistic shot at joining “Myself” in that bracket is “9,” which opened to a lukewarm $3.3 million. Though far from spectacular, the number will give the animated flick a second place finish, as new releases “Sorority Row” and “Whiteout” bombed.

With $1.9 million, “Row” landed in third Friday. The critically-detested “Whiteout” opened even more disappointingly; it landed in sixth with $1.8 million. “Inglourious Basterds” and “All About Steve” filled in the gap, earning $1.9 million and $1.8 million, respectively.
