Gina Carano, the face of female mixed martial arts despite her Strikeforce championship loss to “Cyborg” Santos, has scored a starring movie role.
According to Mike Fleming, Carano has been tapped as “a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who is given a second chance to use her skills for constructive purposes” in director Steven Soderbergh’s “Knockout.”
The film, penned by Lem Dobbs, is described as being a flat-out spy thriller in the James Bond vein; it shoots in various global locations and will likely pull big name actors to support Carano in the cast.
The attractive Carano, arguably the best-drawing fighter in the entire Strikeforce promotion, has earned notable media attention for her looks; having been tapped for shoots with publications like Maxim, Carano’s appearance is viewed as atypical for a woman in the world of fighting. She also appeared on the short-lived “American Gladiators” revival.
