Weekend Box Office: “G-Force” Edges “Potter,” “Truth”

Reviews were not good, but new family film “G-Force” topped the weekend box office, limiting the reign of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” to a single week.

“Force” earned an estimated $32.2 million, which gave it the edge over “Potter”‘s $30 million. Even more poorly reviewed “G-Force” (which was panned by critics), “The Ugly Truth” proved that Katherine Heigl’s ability to open a movie remains in tact–the film grossed a solid $27 million for third place (of course, with much worse reviews and without the proven staying power of Sandra Bullock films, this one has no shot at touching the long-term gross of fellow summer chick flick “The Proposal”).

“Orphan,” another newcomer, landed in fourth with $12.8 million. The fifth spot belonged to “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” ($8.2 million).

Weekend Top Ten:
1) G-Force – $32.2 million
2) Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince – $30 million ($221.8 million)
3) The Ugly Truth – $27 million
4) Orphan – $12.8 million
5) Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs – $8.2 million ($171.3 million)
6) Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – $8 million ($379.1 million)
7) The Hangover – $6.5 million ($247.1 million)
8) The Proposal – $6.4 million ($140.1 million)
9) Public Enemies – $4.2 million ($88.1 millioin)
10) Bruno – $2.7 million ($56.5 million)
