Julianne Hough Joins “Footloose”

The “Footloose” remake has its Ariel. According to Variety, “Dancing with the Stars” professional and country singer Julianne Hough has signed on for the female lead, contingent on final scheduling.

Hough stars opposite Chace Crawford, who had previously been announced as playing Ren. Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer played the chief male and female roles in the 1984 original.

Rumors say Amanda Bynes, Hayden Panettiere and Jessie James had all auditioned for the role.

The remake to the popular 1980s musical, which featured one of the most popular movie soundtracks of its era, is said to be a “more mature” take on the story. It is slated for a 2010 release.
