Upfront week might bring television news to the forefront, but it does not cause film studios to delay making casting decisions.
Variety reports that “Scrubs” star Zach Braff is nearing a deal to effectively take over upcoming comedy “Swingles.”
Braff is negotiating to direct, rewrite and star in the film, which follows a man who, after being dropped by his standard wingman, utilizes the help of a sharp-tongued woman to meet single women. Cameron Diaz had already signed onto star in the role opposite Braff.
— Other film industry news concerns box office sensation Will Smith; his production company Overbrook Entertainment, in conjunction with Sony Pictures, has acquired film rights to the life of John Keller, an ex-Marine who orchestrated a successful rescue during Hurricane Katrina. John Lee Hancock will write and direct.
