Taylor Swift’s “Tortured Poets Department” Debuts With 4 Million Global Sales Equivalents, Becoming 14th 7-Figure Debut

Taylor Swift continues to deliver blockbuster numbers.

Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” was an absolute behemoth domestically and around the world, extending the artist’s streak of million-plus opening weeks.

According to Republic Records, “Tortured Poets” surpassed 4 million in global consumption/sales equivalent units during its first week of release.

Based on notes from previous Republic announcements, the new album becomes Swift’s fourteenth release to reach 1 million in global first-week consumption.

The 4 million global figure includes a blockbuster 2.6 million in US consumption. Said figure marks the second-greatest opening of all-time; only Adele’s “25” started with more first-week units in the US.

As it rules the Billboard 200, the album’s focus single “Fortnight (featuring Post Malone)” will start at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
