History Is Made As “Minari” Star Yuh-Jung Youn Wins Oscar For Best Supporting Actress

She is the first Korean actress to win the award.

The 93rd Academy Awards just revealed the second acting winner of the night — and the news was of the historic variety.

Just prior to 10PM ET, the announcement came that “Minari” star Yuh-Jung Youn (as presented in the Oscar billing; Korean formatting would be Youn Yuh-Jung) won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

The actress is the first Korean to ever win an acting Oscar.

Other nominees included Maria Bakalova, Glenn Close, Olivia Colman, and Amanda Seyfried.

The ongoing Oscars ceremony is airing on ABC. Remaining categories include Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Picture.
