Billboard Hot 100: Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” Finally Becomes #1 Song In America

The Christmas staple hits #1 25 years after its initial release.

Long a staple of Christmas season, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” finally reaches #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song rises two places to top this week’s edition of the chart, which ranks the top songs based on activity from sales, streams and radio airplay.

First released in 1994, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” always gains traction during Christmas season. It has fared especially well in recent years, however, due to its increased digital power. The track has remained a strong seller even as the digital download landscape has cooled. It, like many Christmas season classics, has also benefited from the rise of streaming

In essence, a song that predates the digital music revolution is stronger than ever because of digital music consumption. The track takes #1 on this week’s Digital Song Sales chart and holds at #1 on the Streaming Songs chart.

Coupled with the decent airplay it receives during the holiday, the digital prowess allowed “All I Want For Christmas Is You” to hit #1 25 years after its initial release.
