Tones and I’s “Dance Monkey” Receiving Pop Radio Airplay In San Diego, Atlanta, New York

“Dance Monkey” is starting to capture attention at US pop radio.

While its US push has thus far focused on alternative radio, Tones and I’s “Dance Monkey” has been attracting mainstream interest.

A handful of pop stations have begun spinning the song in recent weeks.

According to Mediabase, San Diego’s Channel 93.3 ranks as the top supporter. It played the song 32 times during the September 22-28 tracking period.

Atlanta’s Q99.7 provided 12 spins within that window, while New York’s Z100 offered 9 spins. Some other, smaller-market stations have also shown interest.

— “Dance Monkey” has emerged into a massive hit in Tones and I’s home of Australia, where it has spent nine weeks at #1. Its ARIA chart reign is the longest ever for a song by a solo female artist — and ties the record for a song by an Australian artist.

Amid its Australian dominance, “Dance Monkey” has been gaining traction in various international markets.

Traction in the United States has been coming more slowly than it did in other regions, but it is still noteworthy. In addition to the radio interest, “Dance Monkey” is showing strength on the streaming front. Thanks to its overall activity level, it appears on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100.
