“Hustlers” Rules US Friday Box Office, But “IT Chapter Two” Will Win Weekend; “Goldfinch” Flops

“Hustlers” will debut at #2 on the weekend chart.

“Hustlers” ruled the Friday US box office race and is set to post a strong opening weekend total.

It will not, however, be able to top “IT Chapter Two” on said weekend chart.

The new release earned $13.1 million at the Friday box office. Based on that figure, it should close the weekend with $29-34 million in receipts.

“IT Chapter Two,” which earned $12.8 million Friday, will pull ahead of “Hustlers” as the weekend progresses. It should post a three-day total in the $38-42 million range, leading to a second consecutive weekend at #1.

The two films are the only real factors at this weekend’s box office. No other film is even a lock to reach $5 million.

That includes new release “The Goldfinch,” which earned a mere $0.9 million Friday. It should close the weekend with about $2.4-3.2 million, and land in the #6-8 range on the weekend chart.
