“Good Boys” Unsurprisingly Takes #1 At US Weekend Box Office

The rated-R comedy won this weekend’s box office race.

Critically acclaimed comedy “Good Boys” predictably debuts atop the US weekend box office chart.

Per studio estimates, the film will close the weekend with $21.0 million in receipts. The tally will comfortably position “Good Boys” as the weekend’s #1 film.

“Hobbs & Shaw,” last weekend’s winner, falls to #2 with $14.1 million. Its cumulative total now stands at $133.7 million.

“The Lion King” holds at #3 with $11.9 million (cume now $496.1 million), while “The Angry Birds Movie 2” debuts at #4 with $10.5 million in weekend receipts. With earnings from earlier this week included, “Angry Birds” boasts a cumulative total of $16.2 million.

Down three places, “Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark” takes #5 with $10.1 million (cume now $40.2 million).

— Three widely released newcomers miss the Top 5 this week. “47 Meters Down: Uncaged” starts at #6 with $9.0 million, while a gross of $4.5 million slots “Blinded By The Light” at #9. “Where’d You Go, Bernadette” debuts at #11 with $3.5 million.
