“Lion King” Again Wins US Weekend Box Office; “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” Sets Tarantino High Mark

“The Lion King” spends a second week at #1 on the US box office chart.

“The Lion King” predictably retains its throne at the US weekend box office.

Per studio estimates, the hit adaptation will earn $75.5 million in its second weekend of release. The count brings the film’s cumulative total to $350.8 million — and convincingly ranks as the weekend’s best.

The closest competition comes from “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood,” which debuts at #2 courtesy of its $40.4 million. Although it does not earn the new film the top spot, it does represent a career-high opening weekend for director Quentin Tarantino. His previous best of $38.1 came via 2009’s “Inglorious Basterds.”

“Spider-Man: Far From Home” falls one spot to #3 with $12.2 million (cume now $344.5 million), while “Toy Story 4” dips one place to #4 with $9.9 million (cume now $395.6 million).

Down one place, “Crawl” takes #5 with $4.0 million (cume now $31.5 million).
