Earlier today, Headline Planet confirmed that Ariana Grande’s “7 rings” has reached #1 on the Mediabase pop radio airplay chart. It represents her seventh career chart-topper.
“7 rings,” moreover, is Grande’s fourth #1 in less than eight months.
“no tears left to cry,” the lead single from Grande’s “sweetener,” hit #1 on the Mediabase pop chart dated July 15, 2018 (July 8-14 tracking period). She subsequently reached #1 with “God is a woman” on November 4, 2018 (October 28-November 3 tracking period), “thank u, next” on January 20, 2019 (January 13-19 tracking period) and then “7 rings” on March 10, 2019 (March 3-9 tracking period).
Grande is the first artist since Michael Jackson to score four pop radio number ones within eight months. Jackson achieved the feat in just over six months; “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” hit #1 in early September 1987, “Bad” hit #1 in mid-October 1987, “The Way You Make Me Feel” hit #1 in mid-January 1988, and “Man In The Mirror” hit #1 in mid-March 1988.
Justin Bieber was the last artist to score four separate number ones within a one-year period: “What Do You Mean” in mid-October 2015, “Sorry” in December 2015, “Love Yourself” in late January 2016 and “Cold Water” in mid-September 2016.
