Jimmie Allen & Abby Anderson’s “Shallow” Cover Nears 200K Views, Scores Country Radio Airplay

The artists’ version of “Shallow” is attracting attention.

Three days before Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow” made its mark on the Academy Awards ceremony, rising country stars Jimmie Allen and Abby Anderson released a cover of the song.

The cover has, predictably, been attracting attention.

Posted to Jimmie Allen’s YouTube channel, the official music video has amassed over 171,000 views as of March 3. The count should continue to rise as buzz grows.

One factor helping that buzz is country radio airplay. According to Mediabase, “Shallow” received 170 plays this past week (leading to an airplay ranking of #74). While many of the plays seem linked to a syndicated/talk/countdown show (and thus do not signpost long-term radio support), a few stations have provided separate spins.

Boston’s 101.7 The Bull, for example, has played the cover nearly 20 times.

“Shallow,” the Oscar winner for Best Original Song, appears in the film “A Star Is Born.”

— Jimmie Allen is additionally charting at radio with his official single “Make Me Want To.” The song holds at #50 on this week’s Mediabase chart.
