Ariana Grande Scores Numerous Chart Milestones As “Break Up” Debuts At #1 In UK

Ariana Grande’s big album release week spurs numerous records and milestones on the UK chart.

Ariana Grande’s “break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored” debuts at #1 on this week’s Official UK Singles Chart.

In doing so, it secures numerous records and milestones for the pop superstar.

— “Break Up” marks Grande’s third #1 in four months. She follows Elvis Presley, John Lennon and Justin Bieber as the fourth artist to rack up three chart-toppers in such a timeframe.

— “Break Up” replaces Grande’s “7 rings” atop the chart, which makes Grande the first female artist to ever replace herself at #1.

— “7 rings” takes #2 on this week’s chart. With songs in the #1 and #2 position, Grande becomes just the second artist (after Madonna) to simultaneously rule the top two slots.

— With “Break Up” and “7 Rings” in the top two slots and fellow “thank u, next” track “Needy” at #8, Grande becomes the first lead female artist since 1955 (Ruby Murray) to simultaneously have three songs in the Top 10.

— With this week’s debuts, Grande now boasts five career number ones. and thirteen career top tens.

The “thank u, next” album predictably takes #1 on this week’s UK Albums Chart. It broke Grande’s own record for most single-week UK streams by an album from a female artist (“sweetener”).
