In the epitome of an unsurprising development, NBC has confirmed a second season of “New Amsterdam.”
The network formally announced the renewal Monday morning.
“We’ve been so excited to see how much audiences have embraced Dr. Max Goodwin and all the characters that make ‘New Amsterdam’ such an incredibly compelling medical series,” said Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, Co-Presidents, Scripted Programming, NBC Entertainment. “Congratulations to David Schulner, Peter Horton, our writers and an amazing cast and crew who have brought these stories to life.”
Although “New Amsterdam” has not been a mammoth live+same-day ratings performer, it continues to perform decently in its post-“This Is Us” timeslot. Within its slot, it is actually undefeated against regular broadcast competition.
It also receives big lifts from DVR viewership, ranking as the #2 new scripted series in live+7 (below only NBC’s own “Manifest”).
The show, moreover, clearly seems to have the support of the network. The post-“This Is Us” timeslot itself signals that backing.
