Thanks to hourly airplay campaigns from many stations and the enthusiasm one would expect for a new Ariana Grande single, “7 Rings” posted a mammoth opening day total at pop radio.
According to Mediabase, the song closed Friday with 1,598 pop radio spins. That figure positions “7 Rings” at #30 on Mediabase’s building chart, which ranks songs based on airplay for the first six days of the January 13-19 tracking period.
“7 Rings” will not receive as many spins Saturday, but it will remain well inside the Top 40 (if not Top 30) as the chart goes final.
Los Angeles’ 102.7 KIIS FM and San Francisco’s WiLD 94.9 tie as the song’s top opening day supporters. They had each played “7 Rings” 26 times through Friday night.
Not simply launching at pop radio, “7 Rings” also received airplay at rhythmic and hot adult contemporary radio.
93.9 The Beat, the top rhythmic supporter, actually offered more early spins than any pop station. It had played the song 28 times by the end of Friday. Two other rhythmic stations offered double-digit spin counts, and numerous others offered between 1-8 plays.
A few hot adult contemporary stations also showed early love. San Jose’s Mix 106, the top supporter, had delivered 9 plays by Friday’s end.
