“The Upside” Takes #1 At US Friday Box Office, “Aquaman” Down To #2

“The Upside” should hold for #1 on this weekend’s chart.

The reign of “Aquaman” may be coming to an end.

New release “The Upside” took first place at the US Friday box office with $7.0 million. The figure positions “The Upside” for an opening weekend tally in the $18-20 million range.

If that projection holds, it will be enough for first place in the weekend box office race. “Aquaman,” which has spent the past few weeks as a clear #1, will likely fall to #2. The film, which earned $4.6 million at the Friday box office, should close the weekend with $14-17 million in receipts.

New release “A Dog’s Way Home” took third place Friday with $3.3 million. It may close the weekend with $10-12 million.

“Escape Room” followed as Friday’s #4 film with $2.7 million (projected for $7-10 million this weekend), while “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” grabbed #5 with $2.2 million (projected for $7-8 million).

Newcomer “Replicas” flopped Friday, landing in ninth place with $0.95 million. Projected for an opening weekend haul in the $2-3 million range, it will likely fall out of the Top 10.
