No, “Darci Lynne: My Hometown Christmas” was not a blockbuster for NBC. It actually lost a sizable percentage of its “The Voice” lead-in.
It nonetheless fared well by all reasonable standards.
According to fast national data posted by Showbuzz, “My Hometown Christmas” drew a 0.8 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 5.96 million overall viewers. It took second in its timeslot, trailing only CBS’ “FBI” (1.0, 8.97 million).
It, moreover, drew a larger audience than NBC’s recent John Legend & Chrissy Teigen (0.8, 4.34 million) and Pentatonix (0.7, 3.70 million) specials. Both received fairly comparable lead-in support (Tuesday’s “The Voice” was the most-watched of the lead-ins, but not by a significant margin).
Granted, the Pentatonix special was announced very late in the game — and thus received minimal promotional exposure. Pentatonix also appeared in (and lent its star power to) the Darci Lynne special.
Still, it is hard to deny that “My Hometown Christmas” was a solid outing for the America’s Got Talent winner’s first holiday special.
