Ratings: “Murphy Brown” Drops Slightly In Week Two

“Murphy Brown” posted slight post-premiere losses.

Although it attracted a sizable overall audience, last week’s “Murphy Brown” revival premiere posted a disappointing adults 18-49 rating.

This week’s episode posted a slightly lower rating.

According to fast national data posted by Showbuzz, Thursday’s “Murphy Brown” drew a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 7.17 million overall viewers. Last week’s opener drew a 1.1 in the demo and 7.50 million in viewership.

The post-premiere drops — 9% in the demo, 4% in viewers — are minimal for a heavily hyped program. It is not surprising to see such programs drop 15-30% in their second weeks.

The prevailing issue, however, concerns the low starting point.

CBS’ Thursday lineup also included “The Big Bang Theory” (2.2, 12.04 million), “Young Sheldon” (1.6, 10.21 million), “Mom” (1.3, 7.94 million), and “SWAT” (0.7, 4.70 million).
