New release “The House With A Clock In Its Walls” ranked as Friday’s #1 film at the US Friday box office, and it should have no trouble securing a victory for the whole weekend.
The new film earned $7.8 million in its first day. The figure, which more than doubles that of Friday’s #2 film, puts “The House” on track for an opening weekend tally in the $22-27 million range.
Credited with $3.3 million in daily receipts, “A Simple Favor” ranked as Friday’s #2 film. “The Nun” followed at #3 with $3.0 million, while a Friday gross of $2.5 million slotted “The Predator” at #4.
“Crazy Rich Asians” followed at #5 with $1.9 million.
— “Fahrenheit 11/9” and “Life Itself,” the weekend’s other two noteworthy newcomers, did not fare nearly as well as “The House.”
The former took seventh place with just $1.1 million from 1719 screens. “Life Itself” performed even worse, earning under $800,000 from 2609 screens (#9 for the day).
