“Mission: Impossible – Fallout” Wins US Weekend Box Office, Sets New Franchise Record

“Fallout” delivered the “M:I” franchise’s best opening weekend tally.

“Mission: Impossible – Fallout” predictably dominated the US weekend box office.

It also set a new high mark for the “M:I” franchise.

Per studio estimates, “Fallout” will close the weekend with $61.5 million in US receipts. The tally more than quadruples that of the weekend’s #2 film. It meanwhile edges the $57.8 million earned by “Mission: Impossible II” to rank as a new opening weekend high mark for the franchise.

“Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” holds at #2 on this weekend’s chart with $15.0 million. Its cumulative gross now stands at $70.4 million.

“The Equalizer 2” drops two spots to #3 with $14.0 million (cume now $64.2 million), while a weekend gross of $12.3 million (cume now $119.2 million) brings “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” down one spot to #4.

New release “Teen Titans Go! To The Movies,” which earned $10.5 million, holds at #5.
