“Mission: Impossible – Fallout” Dominates US Friday Box Office, Sets Franchise High

“Fallout” is on pace for a big weekend victory.

“Mission: Impossible – Fallout” predictably dominated the US Friday box office.

“Fallout” grossed a strong $23.0 million in its first day of release. A new opening day high for the franchise, the tally positions the film for an opening weekend in the $58-63 million range.

That, too, would be a record for the franchise. “Mission: Impossible II,” the previous record-holder, earned $57.8 million.

“Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” took second place on Friday. The film added $4.8 million to its haul.

“Teen Titans Go! To The Movies” took third place with $4.3 million in opening day activity, while a daily gross of $4.0 million slotted “The Equalizer 2” in fourth.

“Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation,” which earned $3.7 million, was the day’s #5 film.
