Making good on the mid-week projection, Taylor Swift’s “Delicate” ascends to #1 on this week’s Mediabase pop radio airplay chart.
The song, which was #5 last week, seizes the throne from Ariana Grande’s “No Tears Left To Cry.”
“Delicate” earns #1 on the strength of its ~16,727 tracking period spins. This week’s count tops last week’s mark by a mammoth 2,727 plays**.
“Delicate” follows “Look What You Made Me Do” as the second pop radio #1 from Swift’s “reputation.” Unlike “Look,” it also reached (and remains) #1 at hot adult contemporary radio; it thus represents the first multi-format #1 from the album.
Looking beyond “reputation,” the song represents Swift’s tenth career #1 on the Mediabase pop radio chart.
Shortly after 12AM ET Sunday (when the tracking week ended and the news became official), Swift wrote an Instagram post commenting on the achievement.
“Delicate is a song that was written about such a vulnerable time in my life and I can’t express to you how grateful I am that it’s gone #1,” wrote Swift. “You guys astonish me with your support. Guess you could say I’m feeling PRETTY DELICATE about the whole thing I LOVE YOU SO MUCH”
Up one place, Marshmello & Anne-Marie’s “FRIENDS” earns #2 on this week’s chart. It received ~15,548 spins during the July 15-21 tracking period.
Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You” follows at #3. The song, which was #6 last week, received ~15,520 spins this week (+3,417).
The aforementioned “No Tears Left To Cry” falls three spots to #3 with ~15,257 spins (-1,139), while a play count of ~14,258 (-1,557) brings Bazzi’s “Mine” down three places to #5.
**Editor’s Note: Because Mediabase added eight stations to its pop reporting panel this week, the aforementioned week-over-week spin gains are inflated. Mediabase may retroactively adjust last week’s spins to account for the panel change, which would result in reductions to the numbers reported in this story.
