The lead single from Ariana Grande’s “Sweetener” is on the verge of hitting #1 at pop radio.
“No Tears Left To Cry,” that song, is quickly approaching the top of the Mediabase pop airplay chart. It may get there as soon as this week.
“No Tears Left To Cry” received 6,918 spins during the first three days of the July 8-14 tracking period. The count reflects a week-over-week gain of 5.7%.
While Grande’s tune is currently #2 on the Mediabase building/real-time chart, it has a legitimate chance of reaching #1 by the close of tracking. It trails Bazzi’s building #1 “Mine” by just ten spins and has a clear momentum advantage.
Whereas “No Tears Left To Cry” is up 5.7% from last week, “Mine” is up by just 1.1%. If they stay on similar trajectories for the duration of the week, “No Tears Left To Cry” will leapfrog “Mine.”
And even if “Mine” holds on for another week, “No Tears Left To Cry” would be a virtual-lock for #1 on next week’s chart.
“No Tears Left To Cry” would represent Grande’s fourth #1 at pop radio — and her first as the solely credited artist. She previously topped the Mediabase chart with “Problem (featuring Iggy Azalea),” “Bang Bang (with Jessie J & Nicki Minaj)” and “Side To Side (featuring Nicki Minaj).”
