5SOS’ “Youngblood” Wins US Sales Race, Takes #1 On Billboard 200; The Carters’ Album Takes #2

5 Seconds Of Summer scores its third #1 album in the United States.

Whether looking at the Hits/BuzzAngle or Billboard charts, one will see the same album at #1:

5 Seconds Of Summer’s “Youngblood.”

Thanks to what Billboard identifies as a late-week sales surge, the album beats out The Carters’ “Everything Is Love” for #1 on this week’s Billboard Top Album Sales (pure sales) and Billboard 200 (total consumption units) charts.

According to Hits/BuzzAngle, “Youngblood” led the week with 114K in pure US sales and 140K in total units (sales + track sales/10 + track streams/1500). Billboard has those number at 117K and 142K, respectively.

“Everything Is Love” takes #2 on both sets of charts. Hits reports the sales number at 70K and consumption number at 125K. Billboard reports 70K in sales and 123K in total units.

5 Seconds Of Summer’s album had some clear advantages. Its pure sales were boosted by ticket-album and merchandise-album bundles, while the album also benefited from a full week of availability. “Everything Is Love” was not even available on Friday; the album was also restricted by various exclusivity windows upon arriving on Saturday (it was initially only available on TIDAL, then only on premium streaming and digital download services).

On the other hand, The Carters (Beyonce and Jay Z) are more established stars who command considerably more media attention.

— As for the balance of the Top 5, the late XXXTentacion rockets to #3 with “?.” Post Malone’s “Beerbongs & Bentleys” takes #4, and NAS’ “Nasir” debuts at #5.
