“Ocean’s 8” Tops US Weekend Box Office, Sets Franchise Record

“Ocean’s 8” delivered the “Ocean’s” franchise’s best opening weekend performance.

In addition to winning the US weekend box office, “Ocean’s 8” sets a new high mark for the franchise.

The film will close the weekend with about $41.5 million in US receipts. That figure tops the $39.2 million earned by “Ocean’s Twelve” to rank as the best opening weekend for an “Ocean’s ” film.

“Solo: A Star Wars Story,” which spent the past two weekends at #1, takes #2 on this weekend’s chart. It earned $15.2 million, bringing its cumulative gross to $176.1 million.

“Deadpool” slips one place to #3 with $13.7 million (cume now $278.7 million), while the new “Hereditary” debuts at #4 with $13.0 million.

Down one place, “Avengers: Infinity War” adds $6.8 million to its haul (cume now $654.7 million).

— Theaters for the new “Hotel Artemis” were rich with vacancies this weekend. The new release debuts at #8 with only $3.2 million.
