“Shadowhunters” Canceled By Freeform; Final Episodes Set For 2019

Freeform ordered a special two-hour finale to provide a proper goodbye.

Barring a pickup from another network, the in-progress third season of “Shadowhunters” will be its last.

In a Monday evening announcement, Freeform revealed that it will not be moving forward with a fourth season of the drama.

The remaining third season episodes will air in the spring of 2019. To help provide proper closure, Freeform notes that it added a special, two-hour finale to that slate.

“We are very proud of Shadowhunters, a series that broke new ground in the genre world and became a fan favorite,” said Freeform. “However, along with our partners at Constantin, we reached the very difficult decision not to renew the show for a fourth season. But, as big supporters and fans ourselves, Freeform insisted on and championed the filming of a special two-part finale that would give devoted fans a proper ending. The twelve episodes will air in spring of 2019.”

On the heels of the news, “#SaveShadowhunters” became the #1 worldwide trending topic on Twitter.
