“Never Be The Same,” “The Middle” In Tight Race For #1 At Pop Radio

“Never Be The Same” and “The Middle” are in a battle for #1 on this week’s pop radio chart.

Will Camila Cabello’s “Never Be The Same” rule pop radio for a fourth consecutive week or will Zedd, Maren Morris & Zedd’s “The Middle” return to #1 for a sixth, non-consecutive week?

That is the question that will be answered when Mediabase publishes its pop radio airplay chart this Sunday.

As of press time, the two songs are locked in a very tight race for #1.

“Never Be The Same” received 11,164 spins during the first five days of the May 20-26 tracking period. “The Middle” garnered 11,006 spins within that window.

But while “Never Be The Same” may possess the current lead, “The Middle” has a momentum advantage. Both songs are decelerating, but “Never Be The Same” is fading at a sharper rate. It is down 6.9% from the count at this point last week, while “The Middle” is down 3.8%.

If they remain on those exact trajectories, “Never Be The Same” would close the week with a very slight (~50 spins) edge. If, however, the paces shift even slightly in favor of “The Middle,” the Zedd-Maren-Grey tune would return to the pinnacle position.

The final chart will be published Sunday afternoon.
