“Deadpool 2” Conquers US Weekend Box Office But Misses R-Rated Record

“Deadpool 2” did not perform quite as well as its predecessor.

Based on its impressive first-day total, “Deadpool 2” appeared to have a shot at breaking the opening weekend record for an R-rated film.

Based on full weekend estimates, it just missed that mark.

Studio estimates have “Deadpool 2” earning $125.0 million at the US box office this weekend. Enough for a dominant weekend victory, the tally nonetheless trails the $132.4 million record held by the original “Deadpool.”

It does, however, top the $123.4 million earned by “It” to rank as the second-biggest R-rated opening of all-time.

As for this weekend’s box office, “Avengers: Infinity War” takes #2 with $28.7 million. The former #1 film now boasts a cumulative gross of $595.0 million.

New release “Book Club” starts at #3 with $12.5 million, while “Life Of The Party” dips two places to #4. with $7.7 million (cume now $31.0 million).

Down two places, “Breaking In” takes #5 with $6.5 million (cume now $28.8 million).

New release “Show Dogs,” which earned $6.0 million in its inaugural weekend, debuts at #6.
