Three “bubble dramas” just received the dreaded cancellation news.
The FOX ax swung on “Lucifer,” while ABC opted not to order new “Designated Survivor” or “Quantico” seasons.
From a pure live+same-day ratings standpoint, none of the cancellations is surprising.
Recent “Quantico” and “Designated Survivor” episodes have posted abysmal 0.5 adults 18-49 ratings. “Lucifer” has settled into the 0.7 range this spring, with one episode going as low as 0.6.
Some did, however, hold out hope for “Lucifer” and “Designated Survivor” renewals. “Lucifer,” in particular, seemed capable of riding buzz — and presumed support from network brass — to a new season.
“Quantico” surprisingly avoided cancellation last year, but most presumed it was a longshot for another renewal. The recent ratings solidified that fate.
“Lucifer” and “Quantico” will be ending after three seasons. “Designated Survivor” is waving goodbye after two.
