Ratings: “American Idol” Slips Sunday, Still Ties For First Among Network Shows

The first Top 24 episode trailed the final Hollywood episode.

Sunday’s “American Idol,” which marked the beginning of the Top 24 round, endured week-over-week ratings losses.

According to fast national data posted by Showbuzz, Sunday’s “American Idol” averaged a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating and 7.17 million overall viewers.

Last week’s episode drew a 1.6 in the demo and 7.48 million viewers. It also endured more challenging circumstances: an Easter Sunday airdate and head-to-head competition from NBC’s “Jesus Christ Superstar: Live.”

This week’s episode did not face those unique circumstances, although it did deal with WWE WrestleMania (as a WWE Network show, it is unclear how it performed). It also faced its usual “The Walking Dead” competition in hour two.

Despite the week-over-week dip, “Idol” tied “60 Minutes” as network television’s top Sunday show in adults 18-49. The only show that certainly did better in the demo was the cable-based “The Walking Dead.”
