“A Quiet Place” Conquers US Weekend Box Office; “Blockers” Debuts At #3

“A Quiet Place” made major noise in its first weekend. “Blockers” started solidly.

In an utterly unsurprising outcome, “A Quiet Place” conquered the US weekend box office.

Per studio estimates, the critically acclaimed horror film will close its first weekend with $50.0 million in receipts. The figure will more than double that of the weekend’s #2 film.

“Ready Player One,” that #2 film, added $25.0 million to its haul. Its cumulative gross now stands at $96.9 million.

New comedy “Blockers” debuts at #3 with $21.4 million, while “Black Panther” grabs #4 with $8.4 million.

Now credited with $665.4 million in cumulative receipts, “Black Panther” claims #3 on the all-time leaderboard. Only “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Avatar” have earned more at the US box office.

“I Can Only Imagine” takes #5 on this weekend’s chart. It earned another $8.4 million, bringing its cumulative gross to an impressive $69.1 million.

— In addition to “A Quiet Place” and “Blockers,” this weekend’s box office welcomed “Chappaquiddick” and “The Miracle Season.”

The former debuts at #7 with $6.2 million from 1,560 screens. The latter grabs #10 with $4.1 million from just over 1700 theaters.
