Critically acclaimed horror film “A Quiet Place” made a predictably loud statement on opening day.
The film earned $19.0 million Friday, which easily positioned it as the day’s #1 film.
The tally, moreover, positions the film for an opening weekend bow in the $44-48 million. That will be enough for a dominant first-place finish.
New release “Blockers” took second place with $7.8 million Friday, while “Ready Player One” grabbed third with $6.8 million.
The two films may, however, switch places on the weekend chart. Analysts have “Blockers” closing the weekend with $19-22 million and “Ready Player One” earning $21-25 million.
“Tyler Perry’s Acrimony” (#4, $2.5 million) and “Black Panther” (#5, $2.3 million) completed Friday’s Top 5. They, too, may switch positions on the weekend chart; “Black Panther” should finish the weekend with $8-9 million, while “Acrimony” will likely earn $7-8 million.
